As you guys may or may not know Jake Our club president and fearless leader is once again doing the Boston marathon Jimmy Fund walk! :a_goodjob: http://www.jimmyfund.org/abo/default.html

The Jimmy Fund please see above is an outstanding organization that does amazing things for Cancer patients of all ages. Most of all Children. Please take some time today to donate what ever you can afford to Jakes Walk!

http://www.jimmyfundwalk.org/2011/jacobfreeman

Or if you would like we can get a pledge amount from people interested here and donate as a club to Jake's walk. I think we can trust everyone here to pony up the money to the club If you are in Say I am in and put a dollar amount next to your name or say I donated. When John Gets back I am sure he will have no issues turning any moneys generated by the club through the Pay Pal account (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_home) over to Jakes Effort. For now just post you are in once John gets back we will make sure he is aware of the donations.

I am in for 20 and I have donated already.

That video is what the Jimmy fund is all about. If I ever had to deal with something like that the Jimmy fund clinic is the only place I would want my daughter to be. Knock on wood.

I've been watching that slide show every couple days. Definitely inspiring  My heart goes out to all those kids and their families. Will miss your company on the walk, but will do my best to show the same spirit and drive that you led with last year. You and Robin were incredible the way you both powered through the pain to the finish. Any chance I'll see you guys at the finish line?

I want to take a moment to thank you all for your support and contributions. I don't know the exact total of what was raised by all the participants in this event, as there's still time to submit donations and a lot of people turned in collected donations at the check-in points before they started walking, but they estimate it will be somewhere around 8 million dollars raised by the participants of this event to aid providing cancer care and research for cures and more effective treatments at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I crossed the starting line at 6:15 am, and reached the finish line 26.2 miles later at 2:05 pm. I saw John's dad at one of the checkpoints somewhere around the half way mark, and he told me that the other half of Team Spirit, John's sister Kelly, had started a little while after me. I stopped a few times to wait for her to catch up, but never saw her. When I saw John's dad and son at the finish line they said that she was about 15-20 minutes out. I sat down just outside the finish line area to take off my shoes and rest while I waited for her.

After an hour or so of waiting and not seeing anyone I recognized, I figured I must have missed her in the throng of people and caught a shuttle back to where I had parked near the starting line, and headed home to watch the Pats whoop up on the Chargers. I hope she finished OK.

I got to work this morning at the usual time, with sore muscles, but thankful to have been able to participate in such a worthwhile and effective event, and thankful for all my friends who supported my fundraising efforts with their donations. You all rock :icn___clap::icn___clap::icn___clap:

Congrats Jake. My sister had a lot of physical issues the last 8 miles and did finish, but much later than she thought she would at almost 4 o'clock

It's a good thing I did not participate this year. I injured my back pretty badly and have been on pain killers and muscle relaxants for over a week now with no real progress being made. I will be going back to my doctor later this week to see what's next. I hope I don't have to go under the knife

If I remember correctly that is about an hour better than our time from last year.

Hopefully I will be back next year

Awsome job Jake. You had a very nice day for a walk. I rode my motorcycle 68 miles yesterday for ALS/ Lou Gehrig's disease. There was $10,000 raised for the cause. :th_icon_beer:

Thanks John. Glad to hear that Kelly made it. I went back to the finish line before I left looking for your dad and Ryan to see if they were still waiting for her, but I couldn't find them so figured they got past me when I was in line for the restroom or something and had left already. She must have really been hurting. I thought I saw her several times, but turned out to be someone else, and I wished I'd have gotten her cell number.

Sorry to hear about your back. I hope it's not too serious and will heal on its own. I'm sure your doc will tell you this, but take it easy for a while even after it feels better,,,, sooo easy to re-injure it when you start to feel good again but aren't yet 100%. :alright:

I would love to walk with you again next year, and was thrilled to hear your dad tell me that he plans to walk again as well. I missed the camaraderie we had last year, both during and after the walk.

Thanks Jeff! And way to go with the ride! :icn___clap::icn___clap: When I had my bike in KC my wife and I would do the March of Dimes "Bikers for Babies" ride every year, those were always great fun.
